Neighbourhood Watch

The Neighbourhood Watch Movement is a community-based initiative under the Community Safety and Security Branch (CSSB) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). It encourages residents to unite in protecting themselves and their properties towards crime reduction in their communities.

This movement is guided by ten key pillars: Alertness, Awareness, Commitment, Communication, Consistency, Cooperation,  Empowerment, Leadership, Participation and Unity.

Neighbourhood Watch has been successfully implemented in the United States and England and was introduced in Jamaica in 1987 by then Superintendent Neville Wheatle and was first launched in Mall Road, St. Andrew.

Since then, several types of Neighbourhood Watch programmes have been born, including Business Watch, Beach Watch, and Farm Watch.
