
The Highway and Safety Patrol Division (HSPD), formerly known as the Motorised Patrol Division, is a specialised, non-geographic unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). Operating out of the Elletson Road Police Station, the Division serves as a vital component of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), providing strategic oversight and ensuring that highway patrol needs are met across the island.
The Highway and Safety Patrol division is focused on being the primary provider of proactive and responsive police services along Jamaica’s highways and designated patrol zones. The division is committed to delivering high-quality, professional services to the public, supported by a team of skilled and dedicated officers.
Core Functions and Responsibilities
The HSPD focuses on the safety and security of all road users, with key responsibilities that include:
- High-visibility mobile patrols along major roads in the Corporate Area
- Highway patrols
- Enforcement of traffic and criminal laws
- Accident reduction and road safety promotion
- Public reassurance and crime deterrence
- Ensuring the safety of local and international visitors
- Maintaining free-flowing traffic along major thoroughfares
