The Agricultural Protection Branch (APB), previously known as the Praedial Larceny Prevention Unit, was established within the Jamaica Constabulary Force on March 6, 2025. Its primary purpose is to combat agriculture-related crimes and safeguard Jamaica’s food security.
Key areas of focus include:
1. Investigation and Operations– This involves investigating reports of agricultural theft, conducting operations to address these crimes, and prosecuting individuals who buy stolen produce.
2. Food Security and Economic Protection– The APB supports national efforts to ensure stable food production and aims to reduce the financial impact of agricultural theft.
3. Stakeholder Engagement, Public Education, and Technology – The branch conducts farm visits and educates farmers and rural communities about crime prevention and legal reporting. It also leverages awareness campaigns and technological tools to enhance its efforts.
Utilising existing technologies and stakeholder partnerships, the Agricultural Protection Branch functions at the divisional level, with a metropolitan headquarters overseeing its activities. Its goal is to prevent, lessen, interrupt, and destroy agricultural-related crimes throughout Jamaica.
