
Established in 2006 within the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC), the A-TIP Vice Squad serves as Jamaica’s frontline force in the fight against human trafficking and vice-related crimes.
The A-TIP Vice Squad is dedicated to the prevention of human trafficking, protection of victims, prosecution of offenders, and partnership building with key stakeholders to dismantle and ultimately eliminate the crime of trafficking in persons (TIP).
The unit performs a range of functions critical to Jamaica’s anti-trafficking strategy, including:
- Operational and Investigative Duties
- Enforces all human trafficking laws within Jamaica
- Investigates all trafficking in persons (TIP) cases or offers technical guidance on such matters
- Responds to international Letters of Request (ILORs) and police-to-police inquiries
- Coordination and Reporting
- Coordinates anti-trafficking policing efforts island-wide
- Compiles and submits annual reports on TIP-related activities to Police Headquarters and the Ministry of National Security
The A-TIP Vice Squad collaborates with local and international agencies such as:Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA),Office of the Children’s Advocate (OCA),Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), INTERPOL and International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
