Communication Forensics and Cybercrime Division (CFCD)

The Communication Forensics and Cybercrime Division (CFCD) was officially established on January 31, 2016, following the strategic merger of three specialised units within the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) – the Communication Intelligence Unit (CIU), the Digital Forensic Unit (DFU), and the Cybercrime Unit.

This consolidation brought together essential capabilities under a single formation, strengthening the JCF’s ability to effectively address the threats posed by cybercrime and to manage the increasing importance of digital evidence in modern policing.

As a specialised division, the CFCD is dedicated to delivering expert digital forensic and cybercrime investigative support. The division plays a critical role in enhancing law enforcement operations by ensuring the accurate and secure handling, analysis, and presentation of digital evidence.

The CFCD is structured into four key departments:

  1. Digital Forensic Laboratory
Responsible for the extraction, preservation, and forensic analysis of data retrieved from digital devices such as computers, mobile phones, and storage media.
  2. Communication Forensic Laboratory
Focuses on analysing communication records and related data that are critical to criminal investigations.
  3. Emerging Technologies
Monitors advancements in technology, assesses potential risks, and develops strategies to address new challenges affecting law enforcement and public safety.
  4. Administration and Quality Control
Oversees the division’s operational functions, ensures adherence to professional standards, and supports continuous improvement through staff training and quality assurance protocols.
